Pope Leo XIV recently addressed the launch of the Diocese of Rome’s new pastoral year during a significant Diocesan Assembly held at the Basilica of St John Lateran. In his address, the Pope emphasized themes vital to the Catholic community as they embarked on a new chapter.
The assembly focused on reflection rather than simply adding new initiatives. Here, Pope Leo XIV met with clergy and laity alike, encouraging collaborative efforts to enhance the spiritual lives of their congregations.
During this assembly, the Pope recalled the example of Don Luigi Di Liegro, a notable figure in the community known for his contributions to the Church. The Pope’s acknowledgments highlighted the ongoing commitment to service and dedication towards addressing the needs of the marginalized within society.
To foster engagement, he advocated for a shared process of pastoral evaluation rooted in an encounter with Christ, emphasizing the importance of understanding prior activities, identifying fruitful initiatives, and recognizing challenges. The Pope called upon the Church to ensure that individuals feel valued and connected within the community, reiterating that the Church exists to lead every person to an encounter with the Lord.
